FC Barcelona were crowned 2025/26 La Liga champions after defeating arch-rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in a historic El Clásico clash at Camp Nou on Sunday night.
The victory marked a historic moment in Spanish football, as it was the first time Barcelona secured the La Liga title directly through an El Clásico win over Real Madrid.
Heading into the Matchday 35 encounter, Barcelona only needed a draw to officially claim their 29th Spanish league title. However, the Catalan giants delivered a dominant performance in front of their home supporters to seal the championship in style.
Barcelona made a dream start to the match, taking the lead in the ninth minute through Marcus Rashford. The English forward scored from a stunning free-kick that found the back of the net, giving the home side an early advantage.
The goal was particularly significant as it became Barcelona’s first direct free-kick goal in an El Clásico since Lionel Messi achieved the feat in 2012.
The home side doubled their lead just nine minutes later when Ferran Torres finished off a well-worked move after receiving an excellent pass from Dani Olmo in the 18th minute.
Real Madrid attempted to respond quickly and created several opportunities during the first half. One of their best chances fell to Gonzalo GarcÃa, but his effort narrowly missed the target.
The second half became increasingly physical, with both sides involved in several heated confrontations. The referee issued five yellow cards during the period, including three to Real Madrid players and two to Barcelona.
In the 64th minute, VinÃcius Júnior came close to pulling one back for Real Madrid, but Barcelona’s goalkeeper produced an important save to preserve the clean sheet.
Despite continued pressure from the visitors, Barcelona held firm until the final whistle to secure a memorable 2-0 victory and officially lift the 2025/26 La Liga trophy.
With only three matches remaining in the season, Barcelona sit comfortably at the top of the table with 91 points, while second-placed Real Madrid remain on 77 points.
