Ambassador Urujeni Bakuramutsa has officially presented her Letters of Credence to Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican, a formal diplomatic ceremony that marks her accreditation as Rwanda’s representative to the Holy See.
The ceremony took place at the Apostolic Palace in Vatican City on Thursday, May 21, where Pope Leo XIV received Ambassador Bakuramutsa alongside other newly accredited diplomats. According to reports from credible media outlets such as The New Times, the event followed standard Vatican diplomatic protocol, which involves ambassadors formally presenting their credentials to the Pope as the Head of State of the Holy See.
This appointment highlights Rwanda’s continued commitment to strengthening international relations, particularly with institutions that play a significant role in global diplomacy and humanitarian cooperation. The Vatican, through the Holy See, is widely recognized for its influence in peacebuilding, education, and social development initiatives around the world.
During the ceremony, Pope Leo XIV addressed the incoming ambassadors and emphasized the importance of diplomacy centered on peace, dialogue, and the common good. He urged nations to prioritize collective global interests over individual or political advantages, stating that respectful dialogue must be accompanied by a commitment to shared human values and the well-being of vulnerable populations.
