The Mother of Cape Verde’s Goalkeeper Ana Candida Evora is finally expected to join him in the United States after a visa issue threatened to keep her away from his tournament journey as she’s expected to support his son and Country.

Evora was unable to attend Cape Verde’s first-ever World Cup match because of travel difficulties, meaning she missed watching her son make history during the team’s memorable opening Group H game against Spain. Vozinha later revealed his disappointment, explaining that his mother’s absence was a painful moment because of the importance of the occasion.

The 40-year-old goalkeeper became one of the early stars of the tournament after producing a brilliant performance against Spain, making crucial saves to help Cape Verde hold the European champions to a 0-0 draw.

However, the attention quickly shifted to the emotional story behind his family’s absence. Evora had faced difficulties obtaining the necessary visa to travel to the United States, despite her desire to support her son during Cape Verde’s first appearance at football’s biggest tournament.

The situation attracted support from U.S. officials, including Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, who contacted the State Department and requested assistance to help ensure that Vozinha’s mother could attend Cape Verde’s next match against Uruguay in Miami.

Reuters confirmed that the visa team in Praia, Cape Verde, was working closely with Evora to complete the required process. With the issue being resolved, arrangements are now being made for the long-awaited reunion between mother and son.

Cape Verde began their first-ever FIFA World Cup campaign with a historic 0-0 draw against Spain in Group H. Spain dominated possession and created more chances, recording 27 shots compared to Cape Verde’s six, but goalkeeper Vozinha delivered a brilliant performance with seven saves to keep the European champions away. Cape Verde will now prepare for their next match against Uruguay in Miami on Sunday, where Vozinha is expected to be reunited with his mother Ana Candida Evora after her visa issues were resolved.
