Arsenal received widespread praise from African leaders after winning the Premier League title for the first time in 22 years, ending one of the longest waits in the clubâs modern history.
Arsenalâs championship victory sparked celebrations across Africa, where the North London club enjoys one of the largest fan bases among European football teams. From Kenya to Rwanda and Zambia, political leaders joined millions of supporters in congratulating the Gunners for their remarkable achievement under manager Mikel Arteta.
William Ruto was among the first African leaders to react publicly to Arsenalâs title success. In a message shared on X, formerly Twitter, the Kenyan president praised the clubâs resilience and determination throughout the season.
âWe have witnessed the power of hope, resilience, focus and relentless hard work in action,â Ruto wrote. âWe watched a team of dedicated professionals do battle against formidable opponents matchday after matchday.â
Ruto described Arsenalâs journey to the title as an âepic adventureâ marked by difficult moments, setbacks, and eventual recovery after several seasons of narrowly missing out on the championship. Arsenal had finished second in the Premier League for the previous three seasons before finally reclaiming the trophy for the first time since Arsène Wengerâs legendary âInvinciblesâ team won the title unbeaten in 2004.
Paul Kagame also congratulated Arsenal, highlighting Rwandaâs long-standing partnership with the club through the globally recognized Visit Rwanda sponsorship campaign.
In his words, presdent Kagame said âCongratulations to Arsenal, our Visit Rwanda partner, on being the Premier League champions after a hard fought season!â
Kagame praised Arsenal for securing what he called a âwell-deserved titleâ and celebrated the success alongside many Rwandan supporters, as Arsenal remains one of the most followed football clubs in Rwanda and across East Africa.
The partnership between Arsenal and Visit Rwanda was first launched in 2018 as part of Rwandaâs strategy to promote tourism and investment opportunities globally through football sponsorships. The Visit Rwanda branding has appeared on Arsenalâs training kits and at the Emirates Stadium, helping increase Rwandaâs international visibility among millions of football fans worldwide.
Hakainde Hichilema, Presdent of Zambia combined politics with football humor while congratulating Arsenal supporters in a social media post. The Zambian leader jokingly referenced political rivalry before acknowledging the clubâs success and joining celebrations among fans.
Arsenal are expected to officially lift the Premier League trophy after their final match of the season against Crystal Palace. The club could also make history by winning their first-ever UEFA Champions League title if they beat Paris Saint-Germain on the final.
