Real Madrid have officially completed the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, strengthening their defensive options ahead of the new season. The Spanish giants confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Chelsea for the transfer of the 27-year-old defender, who has signed a six-year contract that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 30, 2032.
The announcement marks another major move in Real Madrid’s squad rebuilding project as the club continues to reinforce key positions. Cucurella arrives at Madrid after several seasons in the Premier League with Chelsea, where he developed into one of the club’s most experienced defensive players and became a regular figure for both club and country.
Although the clubs did not officially reveal the transfer fee, reports indicate that the deal is valued at around €60 million, including possible add-ons. The agreement is believed to include a fixed payment of approximately €55 million plus additional bonuses depending on performance-related conditions.
Cucurella joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and initially faced challenges adapting to expectations at Stamford Bridge. However, over time, the Spanish defender improved his performances and became an important option in Chelsea’s defensive system. He played a key role in the club’s recent campaigns, including their successes in European competition and the Club World Cup.
His arrival gives Madrid additional depth and competition on the left side where he will compete with Alvaro Carreras. Reports suggest the signing was strongly supported by Real Madrid’s coaching staff headed by Jose Mourinho as the club searched for defensive reinforcements.
Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid becomes one of the notable transfers of the 2026 summer window. With a six-year contract running until 2032, the Spanish defender joins the club with the expectation of bringing stability, experience, and quality to Madrid’s defence.
