Manchester City are reportedly close to appointing Enzo Maresca as the club’s new manager following the departure of legendary coach Pep Guardiola. Multiple reports from British and European media claim the Italian tactician has agreed to a three-year contract that would keep him at the Etihad Stadium until June 2029.

The move comes after Guardiola officially confirmed he would step down after 10 years spell at Manchester City. During his time at the club, the Spanish manager transformed City into one of Europe’s greatest football dynasties, winning multiple Premier League titles(6), domestic cups, and one UEFA Champions League.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City quickly identified Maresca as the ideal successor because of his deep understanding of Guardiola’s tactical philosophy and his previous experience inside the club. Maresca worked as Guardiola’s assistant during City’s successful 2022–23 campaign before later managing Leicester City and Chelsea FC.

Reports suggest the proposed three-year contract reflects Manchester City’s long-term confidence in the 46-year-old coach. Club executives reportedly believe Maresca can continue Guardiola’s possession-based football identity while also leading the club into a new era built around younger players.

Although several outlets have reported that the agreement is already completed, Sky Sports indicated that some final details are still being discussed, including backroom staff arrangements and compensation negotiations linked to Maresca’s previous Chelsea contract. However, officials are expected to finalize the deal in the coming days.

Maresca is expected to oversee an important squad transition as the club is already focusing on the future by targeting younger talents and preparing for life after several senior stars who shaped the Guardiola era. Players such as Rayan Cherki, Abdukodir Khusanov, Marc Guehi, and Antoine Semenyo have reportedly emerged as part of City’s long-term planning.
